I am done with efix installation, bios setup, now when I select DVD icon, and hit enter twice; then it goes through the normal blinking,,,,then I see Select Language Setup Screen; at that moment my screen freeze? I get this rectangle box with question mark, what should I do?
I have checked the Bios-Setup guide, I have checked the Installation guide, but I am still having booting issues? System finds the EFiX it boots up then crashes, and i get error hold power to shut off? VISTA FIRST BOOTING PROBLEMS AND AHCI ISSUES. (from efix official forum) above may not apply to everyone. When I select the dvd drive, after spinning the dvd for few minutes I get kernel panic, I am trying to install os 10.6? Why can't I boot 10.5 after 7.11.17 Firmware has been installed?

Hello everyone. With the release of the latest firmware v 7.11.17 for the V1.1, there have been multiple threads with install questions and other info. I just sat down and had a chance to install it onto one of my systems so I'm going to list the steps I took.
First, since I didn't use the system in my signature I'm going to list my hardware:
GA-EP45T-Extreme
Q9650 Core 2 Quad @ stock speed of 3.00GHz
8 GB DDR3
WD 200GB SATA drive (just one I had on my desk in front of me)
SATA Optiarc DVD Drive
XFX 9800GT
EFi-X V1.1 w/ 7.11.17
1. On my 10.5.8 install I updated the EFi-X to the latest firmware update (7.11.17)
2. I restarted the computer to make sure it booted back into Leopard first before doing anything else. It actually did a double reboot, meaning: after I got to the new, fancy EFi-X boot screen it went black like it was booting Leopard and then automatically rebooted again. This could have just been a isolated incident because I had 2 other Mac formatted hard drives (one for Time Machine and the other as a data drive) and the new firmware may have tried to boot them first. Otherwise, the second time it went right into Leopard. I restarted yet again and there were no unusually long boot times. With the exception of the change of boot screen icons I didn't notice any other difference.
3. I shut my computer down, unplugged all other hard drives and stuck in a 200GB drive I have set aside for testing. I turned the computer back on, went into the bios and disabled AHCI. Rebooted yet again and got to the EFi-X boot screen. Now, I guess I should tell everyone that I did have a test install of 10.5.8 on this drive that I used from the last update so it showed up as an OS X drive in the EFi-X boot screen, but I simply arrowed over to the DVD drive icon to highlight it, inserted the new Snow Leopard DVD I picked up from Best Buy on the way home into the DVD drive, then after a few seconds of letting it spin up I pressed the enter key. Now, I didn't count but it was under a minute that the icon turned to the new OS X with snow on it icon (for Snow Leopard obviously) and then I was into the OS X install screen.
3. I just went through the install normally, choosing disk utility first to re-partition my hard drive and did a clean install. I'll try to perform an update + install for those who do not want to disturb their current systems, I just haven't had time yet. Otherwise, install went through fine with the exception of one thing. I thought my system was just in an energy save mode but after rebooting into Snow Leopard I discovered it would not shut down correctly. More on that in a sec...
4. As I said, reboot was fine. I went into Snow Leopard with no issues. Dual monitors and all. I installed the newest control center. I proceeded to download and install the 10.6.1 Combo Update and that downloaded and installed very fast, however I had the same problem... it would not restart properly.
5. So finally after navigating around Snow Leopard for a few minutes I clicked "restart" again... same issue. I held the power button down and powered off, unplugged the power cord from the power supply and pressed the "clear CMOS" button on the motherboard. Plugged it all back in after a few seconds, went into the bios and chose "load default values" and restarted again. I went back into the bios yet again and put all of the settings back to normal included enabling AHCI and making sure the EFi-X was number one in the boot priority list (it wasn't by default). I then booted back into Snow Leopard and I have been able to restart and shutdown with no problems. I will keep an eye on it for everyone but this appears to have fixed it.
***Update: After testing further Shutdown works consistently in Snow Leopard but Restart does not. Both still work in Leopard so I'm guessing this is a small bug with the EFi-X and Snow Leopard directly. I will forward this info to the team.
A few notes:
1. I have not tried toggling 32bit and 64bit yet. That is next after I post this. I just see more and more questions coming up and I wanted to give everyone a basic run through.
***Update: I have tried it and it's really simple. When you get to the EFi-X boot screen just arrow over to your Snow Leopard drive till it's highlighted, then press F6. A small "64" will show up next to it showing it's in 64 bit mode. Press F6 to change it back. If you arrow back over to a 10.5.x installation and press F6 nothing happens, for those wondering.
2. I still had the GA311 network card installed (just was lazy and never removed it from months ago) The GA311 is NOT recognized by Snow Leopard. Probably another native driver left out by Apple when they decided to "streamline". If anyone has any other experience with their add in NIC's please feel free to post.
3. As stated in other posts, specifically by Edis0n who has tried his 3870, ATI cards are not working with Snow Leopard installations. If you read Apple's website they only list the 4670, 4850, and 4870 as being supported. My guess is that you would need a genuine Apple ATI video card to work but if anybody else wants to put that theory to the test, please do so and report back to us. If you are having installation problems with Snow Leopard and you use an ATI card change it out with an NVidia based card before doing anything else.
4. I have not tried Time Machine yet. It's on my list of things to try and I will report back when I do.

Let's try to use this thread for all feedback regarding Snow Leopard install stories (good and bad). If you have any doubts, just post in here and myself or one of the other Mods can split it off into another separate thread. If it's a true new bug we will put it in the bug hunt section for the team to see.

GENERAL WINDOWS INSTALLATIONS (from efix official forum)
It is recommended when installing Windows to a hard drive to be used in your EFi-X based systems to REMOVE your EFi-X for installation. Here is the recommended procedure:
1. Unplug your computer
2. Remove your EFi-X
3. Unplug all hard drives except for the one you are going to install Windows onto
4. Plug in the computer and turn it on
5. Make the appropriate bios changes necessary for a normal Windows installation
6. If you plan on having AHCI enabled in Leopard it is recommended having it enabled during your Windows installation. Make sure you have the necessary driver disks necessary for the Windows installation.
7. Install and configure Windows as you normally would
8. Once you are happy with your Windows installation, shut the computer off and put your EFi-X back in, along with your other hard drives.
9. Turn your computer back on and boot up. You should see your new Windows hard drive in the boot list*
*Booting into Windows XP using the EFi-X bootloader is not supported if Windows XP is installed on a hard drive formatted in NTFS. If you would like to boot Windows XP through the EFi-X you will have to install it onto a drive formatted using FAT32. Please check ahead of time if there are any limits to the partition size you plan to use with FAT32.

In order to boot Windows XP on NTFS with EFi-X™ please connect the Windows XP HDD in a following manner:
Ex. Gigabyte:
sata_0 DVD-ROM
sata_1 HDD with Windows XP (NTFS)
if this configuration fails to work, so use please alternative:
Ex. Gigabyte:
sata_0 HDD with Windows XP (NTFS)
sata_1 DVD-ROM

How Can I update my OS X(tm) 10.5.8 to 10.6.X? I have efix usb v1.1 with firmware 7.11.17.
As of now with efix v1.1 firmware 7.11.17; efix does not support upgrade, you would need to do a clean installation from os x(tm) 10.6 retail disk. efix usb v1/v1.01 does not support snow leopard.

How-To: Make Sleep function work with Mac OS X (from efix official forum) this may not apply to you, very rare
If your system restart instead of awake from sleep then follow this simple steps to fix your issue:
1. Go to System Preferences
2. Click Energy Saver -> Options
3. Activate: "Other Options: Restart automatically after a power failure"
Q: I dont have option: "Restart automatically after a power failure"
A: If you expirience this issue and dont have this option in Energy Saver menu, please report it to developers in THE BUG HUNT Section of this forum. There is no known cases till today.
Q: I dont have option: "Restart automatically after a power failure", will sleep function work on my PC?
A: Definitive. This Function does not appear on every PC and is NOT required for Sleep mode successful function
Q: Do i need to have latest version of EFiX Firmware in order to get sleep or another Power Management functions working?
A: Definitive. Do always update your EFiX Firmware till the latest stand.

Most likely your DVD ROM is connected to wrong "sata ports" meaning it is not connected to Intel Supported SATA PORTS, you must connect your hard drive and dvd drive to Intel supported SATA ports. for P45 motherboards it is yellow color ports, usually 6 porths together; for EX58 motherbaord it is light blue ports.

It usually means your hard drive is not formatted; please format your hard drive and proceed with installation.

I have checked the Bios-Setup guide, I have checked the Installation guide, but I am still having booting issues? System finds the EFiX it boots up then crashes, and i get error hold power to shut off?
Please follow the following find and fix method.
1. Make sure your motherboard and video card is from efix hardware compatible chart.
2. Please make sure you have only one sata interface dvd drive, (we suggest sony sata dvd drive) and one sata interface hard drive connected to motherboard; you may connect additional hard drive and other components once the initial installation is complete. (now days most drivers are SATA interface drives)
3. Make sure you are connecting DVD DRIVE and HARD DRIVE to Intel supported sata ports. Intel sata ports are yellow color for P45 motherboards and blue color for EX58 motherboards. DO NOT USE GSATA ports.
4. NO ATI graphic cards are supported for efix setup.
5. Do not use more than 2gb of ram for initial setup, this is to make sure your rams are not causing issues, most of the time this may or may not make a difference, but since your setup is having issue you should only have 2gb of ram for initial setup. also you may switch the modules as well, to make sure it is not your ram that causing the issue. please see your motherboard ram configuration table.
6. do not use more than 24" monitor for initial setup, use dvi cable to dvi cable, no adapter for initial setup. Connect your monitor to dvi1 port of your video card; usually the one close to the motherboard side is the dvi1 port.
7. Please make sure your efix usb is connected to F_USB1 header of your motherboard.
8. Please make sure your installation media is retail copy and not a back up or oem.
9. Please reset and clear your bios, see your motherboard manual for instruction; and setup up the bios configuration again. Please do not use any beta version of bios. do not update your motherboard bios to beta version. you would not need to update motherboard bios in most of the time.
10. if the above does not work, please send us detail description of your setup and issue. Please eamil to tech@zougate.com; and open a support ticket.

VISTA FIRST BOOTING PROBLEMS AND AHCI ISSUES. (from efix official forum) above may not apply to everyone.
By now everybody should know that AHCI needs to be disabled when installing Leopard. And after installation it should be re-enabled for maximum hard drive performance. For Vista, AHCI should not be disabled for installation. If you have problems when first booting into Vista after installation, those problems could be caused by having AHCI disabled when installing and re-enabling after installation. The correct installation process for Vista is:
1. Remove the EFi-X™ from your system.
2. Enable AHCI in the bios.
3. Install Vista normally to a dedicated SATA hard drive.
4. After installation is complete re-install the EFi-X™.
5. Boot through the EFi-X™ boot screen into Vista and install Vista EFi-X™ drivers.
6. To disable Vista driver signing check see this post.
Now, for those who already installed Vista without AHCI enabled but you want you use AHCI there is a solution:
1. Exit all Windows-based programs.
2. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. (If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.)
3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci
4. In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
5. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
6. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.
7. Restart your computer.
This will enable AHCI in Vista to match AHCI being enabled in your bios.

Please reset your bios, see our FAQ "Bios-Setup" on how to reset bios.
Please enter the bios setup menu, for detail on how to enter the bios setup menu see our "Quick Start Guide" /Motherboard Bios Configuration on Home Page of this site.
Now select "load fail-safe defaults" and press Y to save, Next
now select "load Optimized defaults" and press Y to save next
Configure the bios according to "Motherboard bios configuration"
select DVD icon and let us know if your system still have same problem, keep only 2gb of ram to do the installation, and switch the ram if first 2gb ram give you the same problem, Please also see the tips on "Bios Configuration Page" all the way bottom of the page.

Why can't I boot 10.5 after 7.11.17 Firmware has been installed?
Try to put AHCI mode OFF and boot afterwards on your 10.5.8. It should work !
Having done that, restart the computer and put AHCI mode ON and
boot your 10.6.1 on this mode
If that doesn't help try clearing your motherboard's CMOS and try booting from the drive again.
